PvP & karma, Ashram Online guide

The world

PvP & karma

You can attack another player almost anywhere, and it is almost always a bad idea. There is a PK mode button, rules about who may touch whom, and a public tally of what you did.

PK mode

The round button on the action bar turns PK mode on and off. Attacking a white-named player requires it to be on; purple and red players can always be attacked. With it off, nobody drags you into a fight over a misclick.

Newcomer protection

Below level 15 you cannot attack or be attacked. It is enough for either side to be below: a veteran cannot touch a newcomer, and a newcomer cannot start a fight either.

Safe zones

Safe zones

Inside a safe zone no player damage lands, in either direction. The city is one whole safe zone: the ability will not fire, the hit will not connect, and your character will not chase the target.

Party mates

Party mates

Members of the same party cannot attack each other: the rule stops the hit before it leaves. The clan does not protect, though: two clanmates without a party can fight, and a downed player can be finished off.

Only karma drops the loot

Only karma drops the loot

Whoever dies without karma loses nothing. Whoever dies carrying karma leaves everything in a corpse: bag, worn gear and the money as coins. Anyone loots it for 2 minutes; then only its owner, up to 10 minutes from the death. Only bound items survive, like the Hearthstone.

The tombstone on the compass

The tombstone on the compass

The corpse is marked on the compass with its distance, always first in the list: getting your things back does not depend on remembering the spot.

Karma weighs

For every downed player your karma still carries you gain 15% attack and lose 5% defense and all four resistances. You hit harder and take far more: a killer becomes an easy target, and dying like that loses everything.

The colour of the name

What you did is written above you: the name over your head changes colour and everyone sees it, not only whoever was there.

  • White

Nobody owes you anything. Defending yourself does not stain you: killing whoever attacked first grants no karma.

  • Purple

Aggressor. Set by hitting a white player, and lasts 120 seconds counted from the moment you leave combat.

  • Red

You carry karma. The name stays red until karma is back to zero, and everyone sees it from far away.

How it is earned and how it is paid

  • Killing a player while marked adds 100 karma. If you were defending yourself — you white, them marked — it adds nothing.
  • It drops 10 every 5 minutes, and only while you are online: logging off cleans nothing.
  • Hunting lowers it too: 1 per monster no more than 10 levels below you, and 2 if it is at your level or above. Farming helpless critters does nothing.

What carrying it costs

Kills in a rowKarmaAttackDefense
1100+15%95%
2200+30%90%
3300+45%85%
5500+75%75%

Defense never drops below 5% of the original: however high karma climbs, you never become made of paper entirely.
